Did you know...
Between 30% and 40% of people in the UK may be living with long term pain? In fact, 32% of osteopathy patients have been in pain for over 3 months before they decide to book an appointment. So can putting off treatment like this have an impact on recovery time?
Unfortunately yes.
We all hurt ourselves from time to time - typically when you injure yourself specific nerves recognise this as pain which in turn triggers the healing mechanism. But what about when the pain continues even after the tissue healing has finished? This is known as persistent pain (or chronic pain), and means the nerves have become over 'sensitised', and pain is triggered much more easily than normal. This type of pain often does not respond to conventional medical intervention, but there are many things you can do to manage the pain with the support of you osteopath such as specific exercises and stretches.
